General Organizational Overview

DNA LogoThe Downtown Naperville Alliance (DNA) is a non-profit organization that exists to help maintain downtown Naperville remain a strong and vital destination for residents and non-residents alike to shop, dine and enjoy. The DNA was formed in 2001 after property owners and merchants in Naperville’s central business district decided to combine efforts. Previously, these two groups had been represented by the Central Area Naperville Development Organization (CANDO) and the Downtown Merchants’ Association (DMA), respectively.

In an agreement established with the City of Naperville the DNA was funded through a Special Service Area and has agreed to use the funds to: “promote, advertise and pursue economic development activities on behalf of the Central Business District for the purpose of business expansion and retention." In addition the DNA also acts as a liaison between the City of Naperville and the local merchants and property owners on issues that directly impact the downtown. Recent issues that were addressed included; truck deliveries in the downtown, garbage consolidation, parking availability, tow zones, and way finding/signage, taxi and valley ordinances, bike routes, just to name a few.
