Project Description

The City of Naperville Dept. of Public Utilities- Water has contracted Red Horse Inc. to rehabilitate approximately 35 sanitary sewer manholes in the Iroquois St-Washington St area and Downtown along Webster St and Jackson Ave. This work will begin next week and to be completed by the end of April. The existing manholes were constructed with bricks, concrete blocks, and precast concrete. These manholes have developed leaks, tree root intrusion, and deterioration due to sanitary sewer gases.

Red Horse Inc. will be applying Spectra-Shield lining system to these manholes to bring back structural integrity and reduce the impact of wet weather flows by sealing out unwanted ground water, which will prevent sanitary sewer overflows that cause residential backups.

Spectra-Shield is a multi-layered polymeric protective system designed for the rehabilitation or preventative maintenance of wastewater structures. This lining system is designed to last at least 100 years. Also, this trenchless application will eliminate the need for large areas of restoration.

Some minor traffic lane closures may be needed on Iroquois, Washington, north of Bauer, and Webster, south of the railroad tracks and on Jackson Ave. Most of the manholes on Jackson Ave. will be done at night to avoid any large traffic/predestining problems. A city representative will be on site during this entire project.
