The Naperville Police Department, in conjunction with the Naperville Junior Women’s Club and the Naperville Fire Department, offers two very popular scouting programs for Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. Both programs are held at Safety Town, 1320 Aurora Avenue. These programs introduce and reinforce personal safety and raise awareness of crime prevention and safety within the community.
The first program, “Scouts Play it Safe” is for Wolf and Brownie Scouts. Throughout the session scouts learn how to handle strangers, where to get help in their community, what to do in emergencies, including calling 911, and bike and pedestrian safety. Fire safety, including instruction on escape plans and what to do when the smoke alarm sounds, is also taught.
The second program, “CSI-Cub Scouts Investigate” is for 3rd grade Bear Scouts. This program specifically meets the requirements found in Achievement # 7 “Law Enforcement is a Big Job” in the Cub Scout Bear Book. Topics covered here include different ways to collect evidence, crime prevention in the home, and knowing where to get help in the community, including why, when and how to call 911. A tour of the Naperville Police Station is also provided.
To register for the “Scouts Play it Safe” or the “CSI-Cub Scouts Investigate” programs, please go to napervillejuniors.org and click on Safety Town to download the forms.
Police Department tours are also available.
